They are a delivery service and carry lunch boxes to and fro to several thousands of offices everyday. They predominantly use their popular <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Hercules_Cycle_and_Motor_Company\">Hercules<\/a> cycles or the local train system to transport lunch boxes.<\/p>\n<p>This tradition goes back right upto the 1890s &#8211; about a 120 years ago. The Dabbawala system is often cited as near perfect and they are frequently known to make less than one mistake in over 8 million deliveries.<\/p>\n<p>They have been <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Dabbawala#Studies_and_accolades\">studies<\/a> by research scholars and management institutes, trying to decode how a group of non-MBA, mostly\u00a0school dropouts and without any formal training &#8211; manage to run such an efficient system.<\/p>\n<p>So when it came to designing a <a href=\"https:\/\/wapuu.jp\/2015\/12\/12\/wapuu-origins\/\">Waapu<\/a> for WordCamp Mumbai &#8211; the working class heroes called dabbawalas \u00a0were obviously a popular idea.<\/p>\n<h2>Meet Wambhau<\/h2>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-2640 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/2017.mumbai.wordcamp.org\/files\/2017\/03\/wambhau-2017.png?resize=525%2C634\" alt=\"\" width=\"525\" height=\"634\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/mumbai.wordcamp.org\/2017\/files\/2017\/03\/wambhau-2017.png?w=554&amp;ssl=1 554w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/mumbai.wordcamp.org\/2017\/files\/2017\/03\/wambhau-2017.png?resize=248%2C300&amp;ssl=1 248w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 525px) 100vw, 525px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The Wapuu for WordCamp Mumbai is designed after the popular\u00a0<em>&#8216;dabbawala&#8217;\u00a0<\/em>and we hope it delivers great WordPress goodness to all attending the WordCamp. It&#8217;s name is\u00a0<strong>&#8220;Wambhau&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The name means <strong>Wa<\/strong>puu + <strong>M<\/strong>umbai + <strong>bhau \u00a0<\/strong><em>(meaning brother in the local Marathi language and a popular way for addressing dabbawalas)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Credits<\/h2>\n<p>Special\u00a0thanks to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ganeshkerkar\">Ganesh Kerkar<\/a> who designed the Wambhau.
