Introducing the Gutenberg Track at WordCamp Mumbai

If you have been following developments around WordPress, chances are you have heard about the Gutenberg project. The Gutenberg project, will be using blocks that support all types of content. It will start with reimagining the editor with WordPress 5.0.

Gutenberg is scheduled to be introduced into WordPress core after April sometime. Since WordCamp Mumbai is now multi-track, we thought it would be best to have one track dedicated to learn, share and understand what is in store for developers, users, writers, designers with Gutenberg.

So we are putting out a call for anyone with ideas around Gutenberg to apply as speakers! The Gutenberg track is waiting for you! 🙂

WordCamp Mumbai has a new venue thanks to FOSSEE.in

Thank You FOSSEE

The past four editions of WordCamp Mumbai took place at the same venue. The venue unfortunately is undergoing reconstruction for this year. The organisers started to look around for new venues and we were lucky to have some interesting candidates.

Our old venue, really afforded us a single track. Last year we sold more than 600 tickets. It is difficult to have a single track that 600 people might find useful. The number of attendees this year will probably be more than 600 (700?) and hence we thought it was time Mumbai went multi-track.

We came across Victor Menezes Convention Centre at IIT Bombay. The venue allows us use of 5 class rooms and a main auditorium with over 350 seats.

The best part was we had FOSSEE.in who graciously became venue sponsors. This means our venue does not cost us anything!

About FOSSEE

FOSSEE (Free and Open Source Software in Education) project promotes the use of FOSS tools to improve the quality of education in our country. We aim to reduce dependency on proprietary software in educational institutions. We encourage the use of FOSS tools through various activities to ensure commercial software is replaced by equivalent FOSS tools. We also develop new FOSS tools and upgrade existing tools to meet requirements in academia and research.

The FOSSEE project is part of the National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Ministry of Human Resources and Development, Government of India.

Have you heard? There will be a WordCamp in Mumbai

We are just three days in to the year twenty-eighteen! So we really want to take this opportunity to convey two things.

First is obviously

Happy New Year! Hope 2018 will treat you great.

and secondly

WordCamp Mumbai will happen on March 17-18 this year!

But let’s start with some introduction to what the WordCamp is all about!

The Local Community and Meetups

WordPress has a thriving meetup group in Mumbai. Since March last year, we have organised 18 meetups in 7 different locations.

So who makes the community?

Well anyone using WordPress and in any capacity. We try to make sure everyone is made to feel welcomed and part of the WordPress community.

If you visit Mumbai or are living in the city and want to meet fellow WordPress enthusiasts, please do come down to one of these meetups.

You can sign up to this official Meetup Group of Mumbai.

We will be putting out a call for volunteers, speakers and sponsors soon. But really, do come down for a meetup and join all of us in building this community.

What is WordCamp Mumbai all about?

A WordCamp is an informal conference about all things WordPress. The event is completely volunteer driven and we look for your support in making this event bigger and better than the last one. (Hint: Join our meetup!)

Stay connected

We will posting a lot of content to this website about what’s in store. This will be the 5th straight year a WordCamp will happen in Mumbai. In total the 6th one in its WordCamp history. We promise this year, somethings are going to be a bit different and hopefully for the better!
