You arrive at the venue, find your registration desk, attend a great talk, meet interesting people, grab some food, exchange a few LinkedIn profiles, perhaps discover a new plugin or idea, and go home feeling that it was a wonderful day.

But behind that one day are months of conversations, decisions, spreadsheets, messages, calls, unexpected problems, new ideas, second thoughts, last-minute changes and a whole lot of people quietly making things happen.

For WordCamp Mumbai 2027, there is another interesting story unfolding behind the scenes. A large part of this organising team is doing it for the first time.

And honestly, that is one of the things that makes this team so exciting.

WordCamp Mumbai is entirely volunteer-run. The current team brings together 12 people from very different professional and personal backgrounds, including developers, project managers, marketers, educators, accessibility professionals, designers and WordPress community members.

But this isn’t a team where everyone is expected to know everything.

It is a team where people are learning as they go.

Meet the Organizers

First-time organisers bring something valuable: a fresh pair of eyes

When you’ve organised the same kind of event several times, experience becomes a huge advantage. You know what can go wrong. You know which details need attention. You know the questions people will ask before they ask them.

But experience can sometimes come with assumptions too. A first-time organiser doesn’t necessarily have those assumptions.

They can ask:

“Why are we doing it this way?”

“Could we try something different?”

“What if we made this easier for attendees?”

“Have we thought about this group of people?”

Those questions are incredibly useful. New organisers don’t come with a fixed playbook. They come with curiosity.

And when you put that curiosity together with people who have organised events before, something interesting happens: experience and fresh thinking start working together.

That is exactly the kind of mix we want for WordCamp Mumbai 2027.

Twelve people. Very different strengths. One shared goal.

One of the best things about this team is that there isn’t a single definition of what an “organiser” looks like.

There is a senior frontend engineer. There are project managers. There are people working in SEO and digital marketing. There are developers and WordPress professionals.

There is an accessibility specialist who brings a completely different perspective to the table. There are people with experience in education, business, technology, content and community.

And there are organisers who are simply willing to step up, learn and figure things out along the way.

That mix matters. Because a great WordCamp isn’t just about having great speakers or a nice venue.

It is about thinking about the entire experience.

Different people notice different things.

And that is a strength.

We are learning to organise by actually organising

There is no perfect handbook for organising a WordCamp.

You can read documentation. You can look at what previous WordCamps have done. You can ask people who have been through it before.

But eventually, you have to roll up your sleeves and do the work. That means learning how decisions get made.

Learning how to manage timelines. Learning how to communicate clearly.

Learning when to take ownership and when to ask for help. Learning that a great idea isn’t always the right idea for the event.

Learning that sometimes the smallest detail can become the thing everyone remembers. And learning that you don’t have to know the answer before you join the conversation.

That last part is particularly important. You can learn while doing.

And sometimes, the best way to learn is to have a team around you that is willing to say, “Let’s figure this out together.”

Transparency isn’t just a nice word

One of the things we are consciously trying to build into the way we work is transparency.

Ideas are discussed openly. Questions are encouraged. Different opinions are heard.

People can suggest something without worrying that it has to be perfect.

And when a decision needs to be made, the goal is not for one person to have all the answers. The goal is to arrive at the best decision for the event and the community.

That makes the organising process much more interesting. That’s collaboration.

Not everyone agreeing all the time.

Delegation makes the team stronger

Another important part of this journey is learning to let go.

When you’re passionate about something, it is very easy to think: “I’ll just do it.”

It feels faster. Sometimes it probably is faster.

But a team cannot grow if one person keeps doing everything. So we’re learning to delegate.

And delegation isn’t simply about distributing tasks. It is about giving people ownership.

That’s how organisers are made. Not by giving people a checklist. By giving people the space to contribute.

And when someone gets stuck, someone else steps in.

The best part? Everyone brings their personality too.

Skills are important. But personality matters just as much.

Every team has the person who asks the practical question. The person who spots the tiny detail everyone else missed.

The person who keeps conversations moving. The person who throws out wild ideas.

The person who quietly gets things done. The person who says, “Wait, have we thought about this?”

The person who makes everyone laugh when a meeting gets a little too serious.

You aren’t just bringing professional skills into the room.

You’re bringing yourself.

And when twelve different personalities start shaping one event, you never quite know what the final result will look like. That’s part of the excitement.

We’re not just organising WordCamp. We’re growing as organisers.

There is a lovely side effect to all of this. By the time WordCamp Mumbai 2027 arrives, we won’t just have organised a conference. A group of people will have learned new skills.

WordCamp itself is built around the idea of learning and sharing. The organising team should be no different.

This is what community looks like

WordCamp Mumbai 2027 is planned as a community-driven event bringing together developers, designers, creators, entrepreneurs, educators, marketers, business owners and WordPress enthusiasts.

But before the community gathers at the venue, there is a smaller community already at work.

It’s this team. Come meet the people making it happen

Aamchi Mumbai. Aapla WordPress. And this time, we’re building it together.

There is something special about watching an event come to life.
